Type in Motion

For this project I had to capture a piece of spoken word between 10-20 seconds length that I find inspiring, which I had to animate afterwards.
I seized the opportunity to learn using AfterEffects and although I really had some struggles first and it took me quite a while to get started, I really enjoyed doing it eventually.

I chose an extract of an interview with Whoopie Goldberg, where she was among other things talking about Hollywood and how she could manage to come out on top.
Her breakthrough was in the late 80s, that's why I wanted to add an "80s feeling" to my animation. Because she's an actress my actual idea was to animate the piece of spoken word in AfterEffects, record it on a video cassette, play it over three vintage screens and film it. Unfortunately it was a little bit difficult to get three old vintage screens (that also still worked!), so I just animated three different parts in AfterEffects, filmed them separately and put them together in the end.
For the typography I chose two different fonts and colours, one for her and one for Hollywood. (Guess which one belongs to whom :)
Enjoy!
